font size

Many Muslim pilgrims, performing a stoning ritual at the annual Hajj, were killed in a stampede in the Saudi holy city of Mecca on Thursday, the pan-Arab al-Jezeera television reported.

Some reports, quoting witnesses as saying that at least 50 people were killed in the incident.

This is the second fatal incident occurred during this year's Hajj in the holiest place in the Muslim world.

Earlier this month, a building housing pilgrims collapsed in Mecca, leaving over 76 people dead and scores of others injured.
