Chinese diplomat says Sino-Ethiopian ties strengthening

The bilateral relations and understanding between the peoples of China and Ethiopia is getting consolidated on the basis of mutual respect and benefit, a Chinese diplomat said in Addis Ababa on Monday.

At the opening of an exhibition of the pictures of dynamic Beijing and the art of Weifang kites from China, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Lin Lin expressed belief that the greater success would be achieved in the cooperative relations between the two countries with the joint efforts of the two governments and peoples.

"Culture and arts always serve as the bridge of friendship and understanding among the peoples of different nations. Both China and Ethiopia are countries with long history and splendid culture, " he said.

The bilateral cultural exchanges between China and Ethiopia date back to the 1950s, even before the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, said Lin.

State Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mohammad Ahmed Ga'as, on his part said cultural exchanges between the two countries is of immense significance in consolidating relations of the peoples and governments of the two countries, which he said share similar ancient civilization, history and culture.

He said the two countries signed agreement providing for further enhancing cultural exchanges which would be implemented from 2004 to 2006.

The state minister expressed Ethiopia's desire to energize cultural exchange between the two countries.

Some 90 beautiful photographs and over 100 unique Weifang kites have been displayed on the exhibition, which will remain open for the coming five days.
