Turkey urged Iran on Monday not to divert its nuclear program to military purposes.
Iran has right to carry out peaceful nuclear works, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a joint news conference after meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Maruf al-Bakhit in Ankara.
"However, we cannot support any attempt regarding weapons of mass destruction. According to our point of view, Iran should set up a more transparent cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency," Erdogan said.
The impasse over Iran's nuclear ambition escalated after Iran
resumed nuclear fuel research last Tuesday, sparking international condemnation.
Britain, France and Germany, the EU trio that has been negotiating with Tehran, called on Monday for an emergency meeting of the IAEA board of governors on Feb. 2-3 to vote on referral of Iran's nuclear issue to the UN Security Council which can impose sanctions.
Iran has insisted its nuclear program is for generation of electricity rather than development of nuclear weapons.
