One more child has tested positive for bird flu in eastern Turkey, raising the number of people diagnosed with the disease to 21 in the country, Turkish National Coordination Center for Bird Flu announced on Tuesday.
The child, who came from Dogubayazit town in eastern Agri province, was in intensive care at Erzurum Ataturk University Hospital in eastern Erzurum province.
Samples of the child will be sent to a laboratory in London for further tests to detect if he was infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu, the center said.
Among the total 21 human cases, four teenagers, all of whom were from Dogubayazit town, have been killed by the fatal H5N1 virus since Jan.1.
In an effort to stem the spread of the disease, Turkey has culled 932,000 fowl across the country, according to the center.
