Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday in Beijing highlighted the role of international organizations in the global fight against bird flu.
In his proposal for closer global cooperation in bird flue prevention and control, Wen said the political strengths of the United Nations should be fully tapped to enhance policy coordination in the global efforts against bird flu.
The World Health Organization should increase technical support to developing countries for this purpose, said Wen at the ongoing International Pledging Conference on Avian and Human Pandemic Influenza, aimed to pool financial resources for bird flu prevention and control.
China will, in a timely and accurate manner, report its epidemic situation and preventive efforts to relevant international organizations and countries, and make public the genic sequence of bird-flu virus samples, so as to work with the international community in seeking solutions to avian/human pandemic influenza, he said.
"China is also ready to contribute to the prevention and control of bird flu in relevant countries and regions through South-South cooperation and other forms of cooperation," the premier said.
