US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice rebuffed on Wednesday suggestions about a possible resumption of negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program.

"There's not much to talk about," Rice said during a photo session at the State Department with visiting European Union's foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

Rice reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to have a nuclear weapons capability or "to pursue activities that might to a nuclear weapons capability."

Solana also agreed to Rice's remarks, saying that "there is not much point" in resuming talks with Iran if there is "nothing new on the table."

Iran proposed on Tuesday a resumption of nuclear talks with the Europeans, a move that was believed to be an effort to win international support and avoid censure by the United Nations Security Council.

However, Iran's suggestion was immediately rejected by Britain as "vacuous."

The United States and its Western allies suspect Iran is seeking nuclear arms. Iran, which resumed uranium enrichment research last week, says its nuclear program aims only to generate electricity.

It was reported that European powers began circulating a draft resolution on Wednesday that asks the International Atomic Energy Agency to report Iran to the Security Council.
