Bolivian president-elect seeks to have open dialogue with US
font size

Juan Evo Morales Ayma, Bolivia's president-elect, seeks to have "sincere and open dialogue" with the United States, reports from Bolivia said on Thursday.

"We are in a new era and we will begin talks to seek solutions that are peaceful, lasting, economically efficient and socially acceptable for our people," Morales said.

Late Wednesday evening, the president-elect met U.S. ambassador to Bolivia David Greenlee in La Paz and extended an invitation to U.S. President George W. Bush to attend his inauguration ceremony on Jan. 22.

"You have to turn the page and put yourself in a new era," he said.

According to the reports, Morales also wants to reach a deal with the United States on coca leaf cultivation.
