Second seed Andy Roddick of the United States stormed to the fourth round of the Australian Open's men's singles in Melbourne on Friday, but eighth seed Gaston Gaudio was swat aside.

Roddick only lost five games to Frenchman Julien Benneteau, ending their third round match 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2.

The American will next play Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, who also dropped only five games to beat Denis Gremelmayr of Germany in their third round clash 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2.

Two seeds failed to advance, namely Gaudio and 18th seeded Croatian Mario Antic.

Gaudio was defeated in five sets to Frenchman Fabrice Santoro 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 1-6 and 6-4 while Antic was put out by David Ferrer, the Spanish No.11 seed, who won 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3.
