State councilor stresses for scientific development of sports in China

State councilor Chen Zhili on Wednesday urged the Chinese sports directors to fully implement scientific training programs for the athletes as well as the ordinary people for a new stage of the sports in the country.

In a written speech to the national meeting of the sports directors, which opened here on Wednesday, Chen said that China has reaped remarkable achievements in the past five years both in international sports meets and the domestic sports development.

For the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Chen urged the sports directors to pay keen attention to the scientific management and training of the medal-hopeful athletes, and to spare no efforts in their preparations for the Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, the state councilor also stressed that sports development for the ordinary people in the country is of the same significance as it will establish a solid foundation for a well-to-do society, particularly in the vast rural regions.

In her speech, Chen said that the Chinese sports directors should further explore the trend in the sports world and sincerely keep track of the advanced training methods abroad in order to further promote the development of sports in the country.
