Hingis sails into Australian Open fourth round
font size

Former world number one Martina Hingis of Switzerland reached the fourth round of the Australian Open after beating Czech Iveta Benesova 6-4, 6-1 in Melbourne on Saturday.

The Swiss, 25, who just returned to tennis after injury had forced her into an early retirement four years ago, took only 66 minutes to crush her unseeded opponent.

Hingis, who played her last Australian Open in 2002, will next play either Australian Samantha Stosur or Austrian Sybille Bammer.
