Cold-related diseases break out in southern Bangladesh

Severe cold following nine degrees Celsius temperature during last week has resulted in the break out of cold-related diseases in southern Barisal division, including pneumonia, diarrhea cold fever, influenza and dysentery, local daily The Independent reported on Saturday.

According to the daily, the diseases have claimed eight lives so far. Children and elderly people are the victims of the cold- related diseases.

The roofless people are the worst sufferers of the biting cold. They are so poor that they cannot afford to buy warm clothes to protect themselves from the biting cold and are vulnerable to cold- related diseases. What is pathetic is that the cold-related diseases patients are deprived of medical treatment, making their lives miserable.
