The Addis Ababa police said a bomb planted on Tuesday at the gate of a junior secondary school in the Akaki sub-city and another one out of the premise of the Addis Ababa University were removed before blasting through tips off from the public.
In a statement sent to media late on Tuesday, police said they have committed to vigilance to foil the activities of anti-peace forces bent on disrupting peace of the residents in the capital.
The statement said a hand grenade found at the gate of a junior secondary school in Akaki sub-city at 8:15 a.m. (0515 GMT) Tuesday was removed carefully.
Similarly, a bomb placed in a trash tank near the compound of the Addis Ababa University was found by cleaners at 11:40 a.m. ( 0840 GMT) on the same day and was safely removed, it said.
"Some illegal teams are collaborating with anti-peace elements for personal gains," police said.
An explosions, which occurred on Sunday evening near Teklehaymanot branch of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and near the Black Lion Hospital is a case in point, said the police statement.
The damages inflicted on the city buses that are meant to provide transport services particularly to the residents is another manifestation, according to the statement.
"The anti-peace forces are creating chaos and disturbance in schools disguising themselves as students," it said.
The statement called on the public and school community to collaborate with police in its effort to trace down the groups engaged in the destructive activities.
Police in its investigation so far has achieved encouraging results, the statement said, adding that police would bring the suspects before the law.
