A cinema town jointly set up by U.S. film company Warner Brothers Cinema Inc. and a Chinese investment firm opened Wednesday in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

The first in western China, Warner-Shenguotou Chongqing Cinema Town has high-tech theater facilities such as state-of-the-art screens and audio broadcasting systems.

The cinema town has eight screens with a total of 2,000 seats, according to Millard Ochs, president of Warner. "The audience will be able to enjoy excellent visual and sound effects," he said.

Warner and its partner, Shenzhen International Investment and Business Ltd., plan to build four more cinema towns in four major Chinese cities: Changsha, Shenzhen, Nanchang and Zhengzhou.

Established in 1989, Warner has set up 87 cinemas with 681 screens in China, the United States, Italy and Japan.
