Indonesia asks Iran to comply with Russia's offer

Indonesia asked Iran to accept an offer from Russia to enrich uranium in Russia in a bid to diminish suspicions from western countries that Iran develop it nuclear for military purpose, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said in Jakarta Wednesday.

Wirajuda made the statement after accompanying President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono meeting with Iranian ambassador to Indonesia Shaban Shahidi Moadab at the State Palace.

"We encouraged western countries and Iran to make the complying of the Russia's offer of enrichment Iran uranium in Russia, as a solution of the row," he said, adding , "we insist that this problem can be solved through reconciliation."

During the meeting, Iranian ambassador said inconsistency of western countries on the Iranian nuclear program, the minister said.

"There is a wary of inconsistency in nuclear cooperation. During the leadership of Syah Iran scores of western countries promised to build 20 nuclear reactor, but after the change of political situation, they did not keep their promises. Even it ended with a suspicion on Iran," he added.

On Tuesday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono delivered his hope to the ambassador of European Union, China and the United States, that the dispute can be settled through peace process.

Wirajuda said that it seemed Iranian side was disappointed over the meeting of the scores of member countries of Security Council of the United Nation (UN) in London on Tuesday, deciding to bring the case to the upcoming UN Security Council, without including Iran on the meeting.

Regarding to the wary of the dispute could affect on the world oil price, Minister Wirajuda said that the Iranian ambassador convinced that Iran would not decline the volume of its oil supplied to the international market.

About 2.5 million barrel per day out of Iran production capacity of some 4 million barrel per day are supplied to the international market.
