Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan said on Thursday that Turkey shared the concern of the international community over the decision of Iran to resume its nuclear activities.
Speaking at a weekly news conference, Tan said Turkey, as part of all international conventions banning the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, is against such a kind of weapons.
Tan said Turkey was concerned with regional security and stability.
"Turkey defends the view that the problem stemming from the nuclear program of Iran should be sorted out through diplomatic ways," he said.
"In that regard, Turkey extended support to efforts of the EU trio. We accept Iran's right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, but it is essential for Iran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) fully and transparently, to take additional measures to prove that its nuclear program is based on peaceful purposes and restart dialogue with the EU."
Tan also said Turkey continued to convey messages from the
international community to Iran about the issue.
Meanwhile, visiting French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste- Blazy told reporters here after meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Iran should be conveyed some severe messages regarding its nuclear program.
Douste-Blazy noted that channels of dialogue with Iran should never be closed.
He also stressed the importance of Turkey's participation in the voting of a report to be prepared by the IAEA in order to reach an international consensus of opinion.
It was reported that the EU trio of Britain, France and Germany want a unanimous adoption in a bid to push more pressure on Iran.
