The Fatah movement has not decided whether to join a new cabinet to be formed by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Palestinian Minister of Economy Mazen Sonokrot said on Sunday.
Sonokrot told reporters that there have been two contradictory points of view inside Fatah on whether to join the cabinet.
One side supports joining a national unity cabinet while the other side rejects joining a Hamas-led government, said Sonokrot.
"The party that does not want to join the cabinet believes that there should be a stage of re-evaluating Fatah and giving the chance to Hamas to head the cabinet to see if it would succeed or fail," the minister said.
He noted that Hamas knows exactly how the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) was operating the financial responsibilities, saying
"Hamas is not strange with this, although it was not in the control."
Following a landslide victory in the Jan. 25 Palestinian parliamentary elections, Hamas will be granted to form the next cabinet, which was dominated by Fatah members previously.
Fatah suffered a major defeat in the polls, gaining only 45 seats, fall behind Hamas, which garnered 74 seats in the 132-seat parliament.
