The State Food and Drug Administration worked out food and drug regulatory targets for the 11th Five Year Plan period (2006-2010) recently and it will adopt five measures to ensure the obvious betterment of national production and circulation order in terms of food, drug, medical apparatus and instrument, and health food products.
Illegal and criminal activities such as production and sale of counterfeit and inferior foods and drugs will be effectively controlled. Food and drug safety incidents will be reduced by large extents; and the food and drug safety of the people will be further guaranteed.
The five measures are as follows:
- Further intensify the comprehensive supervision on food safety. Strive for making the information-monitoring network system on food safety cover more than 90 per cent of counties across the country with the monitoring rate reaching more than 80 per cent by 2010.
- Further improve drug-safety regulatory conditions.
- Further boost the quality of food and drug supervision staff. By 2010, those with professional knowledge concerning food, drug, medical apparatus and instrument, medicine, law as well as related professionals will account for more than 70 per cent of all the civil servants and various professionals in the supervision sector and those with academic degrees of university graduates and above will make up more than 50 per cent.
- Further strengthen infrastructure construction on food and drug supervision.
- Further speed up the construction of food and drug supervision information system. By 2010, set up and advance network information infrastructure for the food and drug supervision. Safe and reliable data-monitoring centers will be built. The platform for electronic government and social services system will be established to cope with supervision requirements. Besides, standardized system for the management of food and drug information will be worked out.
