Vietnam's plastic industry has planned to register export revenue of some 500 million U.S. dollars this year, against 380 million dollars last year, according to the Vietnam Plastics Association on Tuesday.
Plasticware producers in the country are centering on renewing technology, further tapping such big markets as the European Union, the United States and Japan, penetrating into potential markets, including South Africa, the Middle East and India, and diversifying products.
The producers have planned to turn out more products used in automobiles, motorbikes, electronics appliances, and drainage and oil industries, the association said, noting that local plastic packages currently account for 80 percent of the total export volume.
Vietnam earned 25 million dollars from exporting plasticware of different kinds in January, up 48.4 percent against January last year, according to the figure of the General Statistics Office.
The plastic industry targets exportation of 4 million tons of products totaling 1 billion dollars in 2010. The Vietnamese goods are now available in more than 30 countries and regions, the Vietnam Plastics Association said.
