People in Malaysia demonstrate against publication of caricatures of Prophet Mohammad
font size

Thousands of people held peaceful demonstrations Friday in Malaysia to protest against the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad by newspapers and journals in several countries.

Supporters of the opposition party Parti Islam of Malaysia (PAS) and members of some non-governmental organizations marched from the mosque Kampung Baru after the Friday prayers to the Danish Embassy here.

Despite rains, people shouted slogans and held banners during the two-kilometer march. The national news agency Bernama said more than 12,000 people took part in the demonstration.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who handed over a memorandum to officials of the embassy, said he asked the officials to convey the memorandum to the Danish prime minister and demanded an apology from the Danish government to Muslims in the world.
