A senior Fatah leader said on Saturday that his group has not yet decided whether to join a new cabinet formed by Hamas.
Commenting on a report saying that Fatah had decided to join the new cabinet to be formed by Hamas, Azzam al-Ahmed, a newly- elected lawmaker with the Fatah movement, told reporters that Fatah has not decided yet.
Fatah would not make its final decision until the prime minister and program of the new cabinet was set down, al-Ahmed asserted.
Hamas leaders announced on Saturday that the movement would declare the person who would be commissioned to lead the new government in the proper time.
The first session of the newly elected Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) would be held in both Gaza and the West Bank on Feb. 18 after a postponement from Feb. 16.
Hamas won the Jan. 25 Palestinian parliamentary election, securing 74 seats out of the 132-seat PLC, and has thus been given a mandate to form a new government.
As to Fatah's failure in the parliamentary elections, Al-Ahmed asserted that there would be a renaissance in Fatah movement after it completed its reform.
