font size

The organizing committee for the Olympic Winter Games (Toroc) risked a hacker attack on its computer system but the threat was neutralized by Italian police before any damage was done.

According to Italian News Agency ANSA, Toroc press office chief Giuseppe Gattino said that "there was no specific attack to our computer system. An individual had threatened to place out system in difficulty but never did so."

"This person worked for a company in charge of maintaining our computer system and the whole situation was taken care by police," he added.

There are unconfirmed reports that the individual involved was in possession of a number of passwords to enter the Toroc computer system and could have been in a position to damage the system.

The 20th Olympic Winter Games is from Feb. 10 to Feb. 26.
