Malaysian government suspends newspaper's publication
font size

The Malaysian government Tuesday suspended the publication of another newspaper, Guang Ming Daily Afternoon Edition, for two weeks.

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is also Internal Security Minister, Tuesday ordered the suspension of the publication permit to Guang Ming Ribao Sdn Bhd, the publisher of the "Guang Ming Daily Afternoon Edition" for two weeks from Feb. 16 to March 1, Beranma said.

The Malaysia's national news services quoted a statement issued by the Internal Security Minister's office as saying that the decision was made as the newspaper on Feb. 3 published an article related to the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad, which were published by several newspapers in Europe.

The Malaysian government last Thursday indefinitely suspended the publication permit of the Sarawak Press Sdn Bhd, the publisher of the English-language newspaper Sarawak Tribune.
