China exported a total of 228 million units of mobile phones in 2005, surging 56 percent over the previous year, the Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.
The ministry said China's total export value of mobile phones reached 20.635 billion U.S. dollars last year, a year-on-year growth of 45.7 percent.
China also realized a 19.44 billion dollar trade surplus in mobile phone trading last year, said the ministry, indicating the country's position as a global mobile phone manufacturing base has strengthened.
China's total trade surplus in 2005 amounted to 100 billion dollars, far exceeding the 32 billion dollars surplus in 2004, said the ministry.
The ministry said among the total trade surplus, the trade of electronic products contributed a greater share.
Statistics show that in 2005, China's export value of electronic and information products exceeded 250 billion dollars, about one third of the national total.
