Brazil soccer team captain Cafu satisfactory after knee, nose operations

Brazilian soccer team captain Cafu is recovering satisfactorily from operations on his nose and knee, Jose Luis Runco, the national team's doctor told local press on Thursday.

Runco said that the left knee operation had lasted 20 minutes, and that Cafu, 35 years old, would be fit enough to leave Rio's Pasteur hospital on Friday.

Despite last week's injury, sustained when Cafu was training with the Italian league team AC Milan, "Cafu has the knee of a young man", the doctor said.

The player took advantage of being in hospital to have a quick nose operation, he added.

Cafu's rehabilitiation will last 30 days and he will remain in Brazil under the supervision of national team doctors.

Carlos Alberto Parreira, the Brazilian national team's coach, said he was confident that Cafu would be recovered in time for soccer's World Cup in Germany in June.
