Pakistan on Monday issued bird flu high alert in view of its reported spread in some neighboring countries but said that no case had yet been reported in any part of the country, a private TV channel reported.
The alert was issued after a high level meeting in Islamabad, which was attended by health and livestock ministers, Geo television reported.
A ban was imposed on the poultry movement between the provinces to avoid any bird flu spread. A ban on the hunting of wild birds was also imposed and the people have been asked not to keep hunting birds with others.
Health Minister Naseer Muhammad Khan said that a coordination cell had been established in Islamabad as precautionary step, adding that six laboratories had also been set up.
The minister told the meeting that anti-bird flu vaccines were available in the country and could be provided immediately if any case was found.
The people have been asked not to touch any bird flu suspect bird.
The meeting decided to ask passengers coming from India in train not to bring any bird with them, the TV reported.
The health minister said the Pakistani authorities were working with the United Nations health organization to check any bird flu case.
Six response teams have also been formed to give quick response if any case is found, according to the health minister.
