Iran hopes to find a positive solution to the transfer of its uranium enrichment activities to Russia, Iranian Energy Minister Parviz Fattah said on Tuesday in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.
Fattah, who was on a two-day visit to Tajikistan, told a press conference that Iran, like all developed countries, hopes to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as it conforms to its national interests.
Iran and related parties hold similar stands on the issue of transferring its uranium enrichment activities to Russia, he said.
Also on Tuesday, Fattah signed an accord with his counterparts from Tajikistan and Afghanistan on the construction of a high-pressure transmission line to carry Tajik electricity to Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
In December, Moscow proposed that Russia and Iran establish a joint venture in Russia to enrich uranium for Iran.
Russia believes that the suggestion could defuse the escalating crisis over the Iranian nuclear issue by securing the Islamic Republic's legal rights while allaying the international concerns over the country's nuclear program.
The United States and the European Union have accepted the Russian proposal, with both urging Iran to accept the offer and return to a moratorium of its uranium enrichment activities.
