The United States said on Thursday that it supports Russia's proposal on Iran's nuclear issue but stressed that Iran is not moving to the direction of dismantling its nuclear capability.
"We've made clear our view, which is we support the Russian proposal. It's within the context of the EU diplomacy aimed at getting Iran to re-suspend its enrichment activities and return to negotiations," State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said at a briefing.
"The bottom line for all of us is that Iran does not have a fuel cycle capability within Iran," Ereli said.
However, Ereli said that "there's nothing that Iran has said or done that I think that gives us any reason to believe that they've made the choice to move in that direction."
The board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency is expected to have a meeting on March 6 on Iran's nuclear issue. The United States has insisted on referring Iran's nuclear issue to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions.
