Lenovo Group's China operation will purchase operating systems from Microsoft valued at 1.2 billion yuan in 2006, estimated Yang Yuanqing, chairman of the board of Lenovo Group Limited. At the same time, Levono's global purchase from Microsoft will reach 10 billion yuan.
Yang Yuanqing made the remarks at a conference on the protection of enterprises' intellectual property rights and individual innovations held Thursday in Beijing.
It is learned that Lenovo launched a pre-installed software project last November by forming partnership with firms including Microsoft, UFIDA and Kingsoft. It vowed to pre-install Windows and software of its partners on its computers.
Yang Yuanqing said the measures would work well to fight againt piracy and safeguard intellectual property rights. The group has sold 600,000 computers pre-installed with Microsoft operating systems, and the proportion of installed operating systems increased from less than 10 per cent to 65 per cent during the short period of two months.
