Hamas warns Israel against attacks on leaders
font size

Hamas warned Israel on Monday against attacks on its leaders, in the territories or in exile alike, saying any Israeli attack would incur serious consequences.

Hamas spokesman in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Salah Bardaweil said in a press statement that any operation against any Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as well as in exile would lead to dangerous consequences in the whole region.

His warning came in response to an alleged American-Israeli plan to get rid of Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mesha'al.

An Egyptian magazine said earlier that Washing and Israel planned to assassinate Mesha'al.

"We don't have any direct or clear information about this subject, but we believe that Israel is involved in plots against the Palestinian leadership, mainly Hamas leaders," Bardaweil said.

The magazine also revealed that there were also Palestinian groups which wanted to remove Mesha'al. However, "we don't accuse any Palestinian side in the issue," Bardaweil said.
