Cattle in Vietnam infected with foot-and-mouth disease
font size

Nearly 140 cattle in Vietnam's Hanoi capital have shown signs of being infected with foot-and-mouth disease in recent days, a local official said Monday.

"As of this morning, 82 cows and buffaloes and 44 pigs in several communes had developed watery scabies eruptions at their hooves. Many are unable to stand, and then quitted eating," an animal health official from the rural district of Soc Son, Hanoi said on condition of anonymity.

The affected animals in the district could have been infected with foot-and-mouth disease, the official said, noting that local veterinary bureaus have culled one cow and nine pigs.

Last month, local media reported that dozens of pigs in two southern provinces of Long An and Tien Giang died suspectedly of foot-and-mouth disease.
