Spurred by export and domestic demand, China expects to turn out 340 million cell phones in 2006, including 250 million for export, according to the Ministry of Information Industry
In 2005, China produced more than 303 million cell phones, a year-on-year growth of 30 per cent, and exported 228 million phones, an increase of 56 per cent year on year, according to the statistics released by the ministry on Monday.
Domestic mobile phone makers exported 13.21 million phones under their own brands, a year-on-year growth of 106.2 per cent, said an official with the ministry. The export of Bird mobile phones reached 6.05 million sets, accounting for 46 per cent of the total export of cell phone enterprises with domestic brand names in the country.
In terms of the third-generation mobile communications, the purchase contract of 3G WCDMA cell phones signed between Hutchison 3G and ZTE Corporation symbolizes that ZTE Corporation has become a 3G terminal provider globally.
