African Development Bank to provide more aid for EthiopiaThe African Development Bank ( ADB) has signed a 64-million-U.S.-dollar grant agreement with Ethiopia to co-finance its rural water supply and sanitation program, said the bank's President Donald Kaberuka upon his departure from the country Tuesday. He also said the bank has allocated some 450 million dollars for Ethiopia's expansion of roads, power generation, water development and other infrastructure constructions over the next three years. The bank has financed 79 operations in Ethiopia, totaling 1.9 billion dollars, since 1975, said Kaberuka. Ethiopia is one of the world's poorest and most indebted countries. It is chronically unable to feed its population and has to rely to massive foreign aid. Source: Xinhua |
