Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday it seemed that Moscow would come to an agreement with Teheran on setting up a joint venture for Iranian uranium enrichment.

Putin told a news conference during his two-day visit to Budapest that he thought a joint venture would handle the enrichment on Russian soil, and would be able to meet Iranian demand in full.

Putin said Russia would be able to play a role in seeking Iranian ratification of a protocol allowing unannounced visits by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to Iranian facilities.

"We have proposed a test plan involving enriching Iran's uranium on Russian soil on the one hand and on recycling spent nuclear fuel on the other," he said.

"If we can convince Iran that the plan is in line with Iran's own interests as well as those of the international community, we can help resolve the problem," he added.
