Bangladeshi elite force of anti- crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has surrounded the house of the chief of Islamist militant group Jumaatul Mujahidden Bangladesh ( JMB), widely blamed for a series of bomb blasts and suicide attacks happened last year in the country.
The sources in north-west district Sylhet said the elite force has surrounded a house at Tilla Ghar of Sylhet and has disconnected power and gas supply of the house. The force is asking the JMB chief Shah Abdur Rahman to surrender.
Rahman is threatening to commit suicide if anyone comes to arrest him, television channel Ntv reported.
The forces also fired two shells of tear gas on the house to force Rahman to come out of the house and be arrested alive.
RAB made the raid on the basis of statement of a JMB top ranking leader arrested Tuesday from Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
The arrested leader Hafez Mahmud is one of the seven members of the policy making body of JMB.
The RAB has given a deadline up to 2 pm Bangladesh time for all the people inside the house to come out. It is not clear what action RAB will take after the end of the deadline.
