Chinese "comfort woman" to serve as witness at Japanese court
font size

A Chinese woman, who served as a sex slave for Japanese soldiers during World War II, will appear in Tokyo court as a witness next week.

Chen Yabian from South China's Hainan Province will be the third plaintiff appearing in Japanese court to testify about the crimes committed by the Japanese troops.

The Japanese troops set up several "comfort houses" in Hainan during their occupation in World War II. About 20 "comfort women" are still alive in China. Two of them, Lin Yajin and Huang Youniang, have sought justice in a Japanese court in 2001 and 2005 respectively.

This court session will be held on March. 8 and a judgment will be delivered on March. 22. Four lawyers including one Chinese and three Japanese have come to Hainan to collect more evidence in a bid to help the "comfort women".
