China is trying to enrich resettlers of Three Gorges Project by offering them free agricultural technologies, an official with the State Council said Wednesday.
In mid-March, 600,000 copies of books on practical agricultural technologies will be sent to the relocated farmers at the Three Gorges Reservoir area, said Lu Chun, deputy director of the Three Gorges Project Construction Committee office under the State Council.
More than 400 agriculturalists and scholars across the country have contributed to the book series, said Lu.
By the end of 2005, nearly 1.1 million people had been relocated from the reservoir area to make way for the Three Gorges Project. The majority of them are farmers who live in poverty due to rough geological conditions.
"It is a fundamental method to help the farmers become rich with agricultural technologies," said Lu. "The local governments will also arrange training classes for farmers using the books."
