font size

Second-seeded Gaston Gaudio of Argentina outgunned Marcos Daniel of Brazil 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 on Thursday to book the semifinals berth of the Acapulco International ATP tennis tourney.

Luis Horna from Peru also reached the semis after a 6-3, 6-4 win over Agustin Calleri from Argentina.

The Peruvian will have to face a uphill task in semis with Gaudio.

Ranked eighth in the world, Gaudio managed to quell Daniel's stout resistance. Gaudio's third service game in the third set even saw deuce more than 12 times, before the Argentine eventually took the game and went on to clinch the battle.

Gaudio's compatriot, seventh-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela, also made semis after a tough win over Italian Alessio Di Mauro 7-5, 6-2.

He will meet Nicolas Almagro of Spain in the semifinals, who beat his compatriot Albert Montanes 6-4, 6-0.
