Bangladesh to import 100,000 tons of urea fertilizer

The Bangladeshi government will import 100,000 tons of urea fertilizer to meet the country's growing demand, local newspaper The Independent reported Friday.

A meeting of the Cabinet Purchase Committee, presided by Finance Minister Saifur Rahman Thursday approved a proposal in this regard.

As per the proposal placed by Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will procure the fertilizer in two consignments through international tender.

About 50,000 tons of urea fertilizer will be imported under each consignment.
