"March of the Penguins" has been named best documentary feature, earning Oscars for Luc Jacquet and Yves Darondeau, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Sunday evening in Hollywood.

The film is a powerful tale of the mating rituals of emperor penguins.

It was the second Oscar for "Geisha," which had won an award for costume design at the 78th Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre.

"A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin" was named best documentary short subject, garnering Oscars for Corinne Marrinan and Eric Simonson.

Earlier, British star Rachel Weisz, 34, won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her portrayal of murder victim Tessa Quayle in the thriller "The Constant Gardener."

Weisz, who is more than six months pregnant, thanked her co-stars and director Fernando Meirelles, and hailed British novelist John le Carre, who wrote the novel on which the film was based.

"Of course, John le Carre, who wrote this unflinching, angry story, and he really paid tribute to the people who are willing to risk their own lives to fight injustice," she said. "they're greater men and women than I."

The awards for Clooney and Weisz meant "Brokeback Mountain," which led with eight nominees going into the ceremony, went 0-for-2 in the early awards.

""Brokeback Mountain" stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams were both nominated in the supporting categories.
