Zuma pleads not guilty of raping

Former South African deputy president Jacob Zuma pleaded not guilty in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday morning of raping a woman at his home on November 2 last year.

In a statement handed to Judge Willem van der Merwe, Zuma admitted having had sex with the complainant, but denied rape, saying that the complainant willingly stayed at his home at Forest Town in Johannesburg overnight

He said that at no stage did the woman, a close family friend, say "no" during the sexual intercourse and the woman had made similar allegations against other men in the past.

The Jacob Zuma rape trial was adjourned shortly after he pleaded not guilty at the Johannesburg High Court.
