U.S. urges to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons
font size

The United States said on Monday that the international community should continue to make efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

"It is important for the international community to continue to act and make sure that Iran does not develop a nuclear weapons capability," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a press briefing.

"The regime in Iran continues to make provocative statements and take provocative actions that only further isolate it from the rest of the international community," McClellan said.

McClellan said that the United States will talk with the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as members of the United Nations Security Council about the way forward.

The IAEA is expected to start a meeting in Vienna on Monday to discuss Iran's nuclear issue. The United States has insisted on referring the issue to the United Nations Security Council for sanctions.
