Bulgaria supports political dialogue in resolving Kosovo issue

Bulgarian parliament speaker Georgi Pirinski said on Monday that the Kosovo issue should be resolved by political dialogue, without imposing unilateral solutions.

"A lasting and stable solution to the problem, according to Bulgaria, is a serious political dialogue that would guarantee security (in the region)," Pirinski said after meeting with Serbia- Montenegro parliament speaker Zoran Sami.

Legally still part of Serbia-Montenegro, Kosovo has been run by the United Nations since mid-1999. Kosovo's future status has been a bitter subject between Belgrade and Kosovo's Albanian majority who are pushing for independence.

The first round of Kosovo's future status talks were held between Belgrade and Pristina in Vienna last month. The international community has expected a deal reached on Kosovo's future status at the end of this year.

With respect to resolving the issue of Kosovo, "we fully agree that a solution has to be reached by a long and patient dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the help of the international community and that an imposed solution would not at all be good," Sami said.

He said that full agreement had been reached when it comes to resolving problems in the region, European integration and future cooperation.
