Sudan plans to give more oil projects to India
font size

The Sudanese government plans to give more oil and infrastructure projects to India in a bid to enhance Indian companies' competitive strength in the country, Indo-Asian News Service reported here on Thursday.

A 741-km oil pipeline from Khartoum Refinery to Port Sudan has been completed by India's state-owned oil giant Oil and Natural Gas Cooperation (ONGC) two months ahead of schedule and Bharat Heavy Electronicals Ltd. (BHEL) also committed to building a 500 MW power plant and transmission line project, which paved the way for Sudan considering more projects to be bore by Indian companies, Sudanese Ambassador to India Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem Mohammad said at a meeting held on Thursday.

The News Service quoted the Ambassador as saying "We are satisfied by the capability of Indian companies."

Indian Railways subsidiary Ircon International Ltd (IRCON) has got a contract of re-establishment of a 203-km railway in Sudan with an investment of 252 million U.S. dollars, according to the News Service.

"The feasibility study of the project has already been completed and the company is negotiating a credit line from the Indian government for the project," IRCON official Deepak Sablok disclosed, adding "once the credit line is available the project will start and be completed within three years."
