Political advisory system can help China avoid "color revolution": advisor

China's political consultative system can help the country avoid "color revolution" -- a turmoil that troubled some central Asian nations launched by foreign hostile forces, a senior advisor said Friday.

The deliberative democracy mechanism under the framework of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) serves as a major channel for citizens' orderly involvement in political, economic and social affairs, said Li Junru, a member of the CPPCC National Committee.

The advantages of this framework should be well displayed to help China meet the democracy-related challenges from both at home and abroad, especially the challenges from a possible "color revolution," said Li, deputy president of the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, a think tank of the CPC.

Li made the remarks while delivering a speech at a plenary meeting of the CPPCC National Committee's ongoing annual session, which opened in Beijing a week ago and is scheduled to conclude on March 13.

"The advisory body should focus its work on those problems where the interests of the people lie... and provide the people with a rational and legal way to voice their demands," said Li.

The CPPCC is a patriotic united front organization of the Chinese people, serving as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation. It consists of representatives of the CPC and non-Communist parties, personages without party affiliation, and representatives of people's organizations, ethnic minorities and all social strata.

The CPPCC also has the representation of compatriots of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan, returned overseas Chinese, and specially invited people.

Most CPPCC members are experienced political figures, social celebrities, and experts and scholars in various fields.
