font size

A total of 313 mafia-style or organized crime gangs were destroyed in the past five months in Zhejiang Province, an economic powerhouse on China's coast, in a concentrated campaign to crackdown on organized crimes.

Hong Juping, deputy head of Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Public Security, said 2,375 suspects were detained in the specialized campaign which began in last October.

The police have dealt with 1,388 cases, and have seized 26 pieces of weaponry and confiscated 23.05 million yuan (about 2.84 million U.S. dollars) of illegal gains in the operation, according to Hong.
