An autopsy on the body of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic will begin on Sunday in the presence of Serbian experts, news reports from The Hague said.
The former president was found dead Saturday in the detention center of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) where he was standing trial for war crimes.
The autopsy will be carried out at the NFI Dutch medical-legal institute in The Hague and will be attended by Serbian medical experts, including the head doctor of the national council of cooperation with the tribunal, a spokeswoman for the tribunal said.
Milosevic, 64, had suffered from high blood pressure and heart problems. The ICTY confirmed that Milosevic died on his bed in his cell at the UN detention unit in Scheveningen, a suburb of The Hague.
Serbia-Montenegro asked on Saturday to participate in the autopsy of Milosevic. The request was aimed at preventing possible speculation about the cause of Milosevic's death, said Rasim Ljajic, president of the National Council for Cooperation with the ICTY. .
