Palestinian protestors set fire to British cultural center
font size

Hundreds of Palestinian protestors set fire on Tuesday to the British cultural center in Gaza City in a protest against an Israeli raid on a West Bank prison to arrest a top Palestinian militant jailed there.

The armed demonstrators also exchanged fire with Palestinian police deployed outside the British complex and stormed the culture center office building, witnesses said.

It was not immediately clear if any casualties were caused.

The violent protest came shortly after Israeli troops besieged and broke into a prison in the West Bank town of Jericho, demanding the surrender of six jailed militants including Ahmed Saadat, leader of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who has been accused of involvement in the 2001 killing of an Israeli minister.
