Japan FM's "China threat" remarks criticized
font size

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso again made extremely irresponsible remark about "China threat" at the Committee on Budget, House of Councilors on Mar. 14.

It is reported that in his reply to councilors at the Committee on Budget over China's rising military spending, Aso said that China posed a considerable threat or even terror to other countries because of its ambiguous increase of military spending.

In last December, Aso also made such remarks concerning China's military expenses, which immediately drew strong objections from members of the Liberal Democratic Party.

Aso has made impertinent remarks over China-Japan ties since he took office, which sparked strong protest both at home and abroad. Japanese media held that by dishing out such irresponsible remarks Aso intended to win support from right wing forces in future elections.
