Indonesian woman with fever, pneumonia tests negative for bird flu in S'pore
font size

An Indonesian woman having fever and pneumonia in the past few days in Singapore has tested negative for the H5N1 bird flu virus, a Channel NewsAsia report said Friday night.

The 64-year-old woman was evacuated from Indonesia and hospitalized in Singapore's National University Hospital for medical treatment on Tuesday.

She had a travel history from Indonesia's Semarang where bird flu infections in both poultry and humans have been reported, the report said.

It quoted the Health Ministry as saying that patients with fever, pneumonia and relevant travel history are vigilantly monitored while strict infection control measures are in place in local hospitals.

The ministry reminded Singaporeans to practice good personal hygiene, not to eat raw or undercooked poultry and eggs, and to avoid contacting live poultry when they travel to areas affected by the deadly disease.

No bird flu virus has been detected in Singapore so far.
