Uganda People's Defense Force ( UPDF) will not re-enter the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), but will at the same time not given room for the rebels to cross into Uganda, Ugandan army spokesman said on Sunday.
UPDF 2nd Division spokesman Lt. Tabaro Kiconco was quoted by Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Radio as saying that the army has beefed up security at the border, because of fighting in the DRC.
Earlier, President Yoweri Museveni warned that Uganda would pursue the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels into the DRC if attacked, saying that Uganda has a right to self-defense under international law.
The president told state-owned Sunday Vision that "If they attack any part of Uganda we shall follow them into Congo with or without approval."
Lt. Kiconco said that Uganda's borders are open for the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and the People's Redemption Army (PRA) rebels who may wish to surrender, but who ever comes as a fighter will be arrested and charged.
He assured Ugandans that security at all entry points is tight and there is no cause for alarm.
Following intensified pressure from the Ugandan army, LRA rebel leader Joseph Kony has left southern Sudan for northeastern Congo and joined his deputy Vincent Otti last week.
